Afternoons with Tia Cátia

"In the beginning we tried everything from telenovelas to sports to news. Then one day I found the cooking channel," remembered OMer Michelle. "There was this sweet middle age tia (auntie) making typical Portuguese food. In my new home (that didn’t yet feel like home) I felt a warm feeling of familiarity. As I watched it, and at the time understood maybe one or two words throughout the whole show, I decided that this would be my tool – a cooking show!"

How do you define friendship? After praying for two months for a local friend OMer Michelle realized that she already had the friend she was looking for – the friendship just looked different than she was used to. 

Upholding His righteousness

"It had been a big week for us," shared Michelle. "Our older boys had started at the local Portuguese school and the mom in me was taking inventory of all the uncontrollable influences they would be encountering.  

Sighing, I heard Jesus whisper in my ear “be willing to be contaminated, as I was contaminated for you.” I looked around the mess I was walking in and began to picture the moment Jesus stood from His throne in heaven and walked out in order to take on the flesh of man. That in itself was a deep contamination for His Majesty. And yet, He did it, joyfully and willingly.
